Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The best way to protect yourself from hepatitis B is by getting vaccinated. In addition to the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendations for children and adolescents, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all adults ages 18 to 59 receive the hepatitis B vaccine and that all adults ages 18 and older get tested for hepatitis B at least once in their lifetime.
